Bollyfit Creator Anuja Rajendra appointed to Michigan Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports

LANSING: Governor Rick Snyder last week announced four appointments and four reappointments to the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports. The 15-member council was established in 1992 to urge an increase in the physical activity and an improvement in the health of Michiganders. "Good general health,fitness is an integral part of our reinvention of Michigan," said Snyder. "I look forward to the work of these individuals to improve quality of life for all citizens". Anuja Rajendra, of Ann Arbor, is the founder and CEO of BollyFit, focused on improving physical and mental fitness through Bollywood-inspired dance classes. She also designed an ice dance routine performed by silver medalists at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, the first ever Indian dance-inspired routine. She earned a bachelor's degree in industrial and operational engineering and a master's of business administration in entrepreneurship and international business, both from the University of Michigan.

Lights. Dandias. ACTION: In 2002, a group of students, dedicated and enthusiastic about raas, began the Raas Association at the University of Michigan. This organization put on the first ever dandia Dhamaka (dD) competition. Dandia Dhamaka pioneered the intercollegiate raas competition. Since then, many other competitions have been created, but dD remains the largest and oldest. The upcoming 2012 show will be the 11th annual competition.

2012 North South Foundation Regional Contests - Online Registration begins for Michigan Chapter

New Year greetings from the North South Foundation! NSF will be conducting regional contests for Indian-American children this year at over 80 centers across US. These contests focus on the academic development of children starting from the Kindergarten through High school levels, enabling them to excel in their studies utilizing the full potential immersed in every child. The impact of NSF contests on children is evident from the fact that for the last four consecutive years, NSF kids have won the Scripps National Spelling Bee Championship. They have been winning top spots at many other national level competitions such as National Geographic Bee, MATHCOUNTS, Math Olympiad, Science Olympiad, Siemens and Intel Science competitions, Engineering fairs, and Brain Bee. Many Indian-American students admitted to top tier colleges such as Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford and Columbia are also NSF kids.
