A ground breaking event, an amazing night of festivities! Yes, Bihar Diwas 2012 – MI was a mega hit with all the guests who attended the event on Sunday, March 25th at St. Paul’s Latvian Church in Farmington Hills. Bihar Diwas marks the centenary year of Bihar. It was carved out of Bengal presidency in the year 1912 by the British rule. It is a day of pride for all people from Bihar and Jharkhand. In Michigan, MIBIHAR – Friends of Bihar and Jharkhand in Michigan (www.mibihar.com) celebrated Bihar Diwas with a lot of fanfare. Close to 150 guests graced the occasion. They enjoyed a variety cultural program and scrumptious meal served by Rumalees Indian Cuisine in Farmington Hills. Litti- Choka and Malpua were the chief highlights in the menu. Bihar Diwas was truly a night to be remembered!

Shikha Raman, a fifth grader at Power Upper Elementary School, 34740 Rhonswood Street, Farmington Hills was declared the winner of the 'I Can Make History' 2011 Poetry Competition. Sponsored by Kroger, CBS Radio and 98.7 AMP radio , 'I Can Make History' is a contest organized in the month of Feburary commemorating the Black History Month in Michigan.

In the recently declared results Shikha Raman was congratulated by the contest organizers for honoring and recognizing the efforts of the Black leaders with beautiful poetic words.Her poem was selected amongst the hundreds of entries accepted by Kroger. As a prize, Shikha recieved a Dell Inspiron 15R-2nd Gen - Intel Core i5 laptop and a certificate recognizing excellence in poetry.

The climax of this year's cricket frenzy ended with the Indian cricket team sweeping the World Cup from their rivals, the Sri Lankan team. Winning the World Cup after a long 28 years, prompted millions of Indians all around the world break into impromptu celebrations. Followed soon after was an array of parties and parades, many still ongoing!
