Malpua: Synonymous with Holi in Bihar and Jharkhand

in Blog

There is not a single household in the Bihar and Jharkhand where the sweet aroma of Malpua fill the air on the eve of Holi. It is a Bihari tradition to serve Malpua for Holi. This scrumptious desert is a staple during this colorful festival, not only in India but now to the millions of Bihari homes all over the world.

Popularily called a pua, the recipe of making one is pretty simple. It is the unique ingredients that make the taste of Malpuas just irresistible. You may vaguely call it a fritter or even a pancake, just in a desi style. And like all the good tasting things in this world, it is loaded with calories! But fear not…the taste of Malpuas are so out of this world that in my opinion, it is worth taking the risk!

Migrants keen to return

Patna, Sept. 12: The days of Patna shrouded in darkness is over. The fear and sense of insecurity are gone from the minds of its citizens. There were days when businessmen did not dream of new ventures. The local means of transport refused late-night rides.

Women and children remained confined to their homes after sunset and the educated section preferred to move outside the state to settle in other cities for a better lifestyle and safer environment for themselves and their children. Nobody felt safe, be it children, women businessmen, hawkers or senior citizens.

Cultural Identity......it's complicated!

in Blog

Life comes to a full circle when it comes to answering questions about my cultural and ethnic background. "Where are you from?" I see myself jumping through the hoops to answer this tough one. If you are like me who has made more than one place their home, you probably will identify with me. Sometimes I wish this question was posed as a multiple choice question where I could answer "all of the above" for my choice. The funny part is that I see this dilemma in a lot of the younger generations within the community. It is hard to choose one word to describe your cultural affiliations.
