Recognition for Detroit- it's at #9 in the list of top 10 American Downtowns!

It’s no secret that the city of Detroit has fallen on tough times. Its downtown core has fared much better than the surrounding neighborhoods, but still has its share of vacant buildings and a frequent dearth of foot traffic. Nonetheless, Detroit’s downtown is one of the most architecturally impressive in the country, largely because the city began to decline before others began urban renewal efforts. These efforts would ultimately scar the cores of those cities. Detroit’s downtown, then, is a remarkable architectural testament to pre-World War II styles of construction. It also remains a center of employment in the greater metro areas, and it has revitalized in recent years with the addition of restaurants and sports facilities. And you can’t forget the legendary automobile manufacturing meccas of Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler, the original symbols of 20th century American innovation.

DETROIT — The Hyundai Elantra and the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque on Monday were named North American Car and Truck of the year by a panel of independent automotive journalists after the opening ceremonies of the 2012 North American International Auto Show. The Elantra beat out the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Passat as finalists for the car of the year. The Evoque beat out the BMW X3 and the Honda CR-V. The finalists were named last month.
John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai North America, said Hyundai has sold more than 200,000 Elantras since the new model was introduced. A $12-million Detroit project aimed at shaping the future of medicine – the Innovation Institute at Henry Ford Hospital – officially opened its doors.

"Our vision is to grow a robust new industry within the region with the potential to create new jobs. By doing so, we can improve the health, economy and living standards of our community," says Madhu Prasad, M.D., director of the Innovation Institute at Henry Ford and a surgeon.
The Institute, located on the campus of Henry Ford Hospital, is a partnership that includes Henry Ford Medical Group, the College for Creative Studies (CCS), the Smart Sensors and Integrated Microsystems (SSIM) Program at Wayne State University and The Henry Ford.

Metro Detroit Indian community mourns death of four men in crash with wrong-way driver

Members of Metro Detroit’s Indian community are mourning the loss of “four great friends” today who were killed in an auto accident Sunday.

According to the Detroit Telugu Association, Venkata Chalam Pasala, 30; Sumanth Rajana, 32; Satyendranath Akula, 35; and Rajendra Prasad Jonnala, 50, died from injuries suffered in the crash that occured at about 4 a.m. on the Lodge Freeway in Southfield.
